Corrections Deputies To Graduate This Week

Release Date: January 9, 2006

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be graduating 17 Corrections Deputies at a ceremony Wednesday night.

“We are pleased to graduate these Corrections Deputies. These men and women are to be commended for their efforts to serve our community by working at the Shelby County Jail,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

The Corrections Deputies have been part of a rigorous five-week training course which included the latest jail security methods, physical agility and Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures.

The Corrections Deputies will be assigned to the men’s division of the jail at 201 Poplar.

“These graduates have shown a high degree of professionalism and dedication throughout the course of their training. The additional staff will certainly help ensure that inmates in our care and custody remain safe and secure,” said Chief Jailer James E. Coleman.

The graduation ceremony will be held Wednesday evening (January 11) at six o’clock at the Agricenter, located at 7777 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, Tennessee.

With Wednesday’s graduation, the Sheriff’s Office will have 861 Corrections Deputies serving at both the men’s facility downtown and the women’s Jail East facility at 6201 Haley Road.
