The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be holding several events to celebrate the efforts of people across the nation who serve at correctional facilities. Back on March 12, 2003, the United States Senate passed a resolution calling for a national observance during the first full week of May each year to honor those who work in the field of corrections.

Staff at the Men’s Jail at 201 Poplar and the Women’s facility at Jail East 6201 Hailey Road, will join with employees of the Federal Correctional Institution, the State of Tennessee Correctional Center (Mark Luttrell Reception Center) and the Shelby County Division of Corrections. The kick-off celebration begins this Sunday, April 29th and continues through next Saturday, May 5th.

• Sunday, April 29, 6:00 a.m.-Prayer Breakfast in the Jail Employee Dining Room, First Floor, 201 Poplar Avenue

• Monday, April 30, 1:00 p.m.-Corrections Week Opening Ceremony and Employee Luncheon-Shelby County Division of Corrections-1045 Mullins Station Road

• Tuesday, May 1st, all work shifts-Talent/Fashion Show-Jail Employee Dining Room-First Floor, 201 Poplar Avenue

• Wednesday, May 2nd, 1:00 p.m.-Memorial Service for former correctional staff–Hope Presbyterian Church-8500 Walnut Grove Road

• Thursday, May 3rd, all work shifts-Carnival-Employee Dining Room, First Floor, 201 Poplar Avenue

• Friday, May 4th, 6:00 p.m. Social Hour-7:00 p.m.-Awards Banquet- Holiday Inn at the University of Memphis-3700 Central Avenue

• Saturday, May 5th, 10:30 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.-Picnic, Federal Correctional Institution, 1101 John Denie Road
