Sheriff’s Office Hosting Events for “Corrections Employees’ Week”

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be holding several events next week to celebrate the efforts of people who serve at correctional facilities. On March 12, 2003, the United States Senate passed a resolution calling for a national observance during the first full week of May each year to honor those who work in the field of corrections.
Staff at the Men’s Jail at 201 Poplar and the Women’s facility at Jail East, will join with employees of the Federal Correctional Institution, the State of Tennessee Correctional Center and the Shelby County Corrections Center. The kick-off celebration begins this Sunday, April 30th and continues through next Saturday, May 6th.
Here is the schedule of events:
- Sunday, April 30, 6:00 a.m.-Prayer Breakfast in the Jail Employee Dining Room, First Floor, 201 Poplar Avenue
- Monday, May 1st, 1:00 p.m.-Corrections Week Opening Ceremony and Employee Luncheon-State of Tennessee Corrections Facility, the Mark H. Luttrell Reception Center-6000 State Road
- Tuesday, May 2nd, all work shifts-Talent/Fashion Show-Jail Employee Dining Room-First Floor, 201 Poplar Avenue
- Wednesday, May 3rd, 1:00 p.m.-Memorial Service for former correctional staff -Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, 70 North Bellevue
- Thursday, May 4th,all work shifts-Carnival-Employee Dining Room, First Floor, 201 Poplar Avenue
- Friday, May 5th, 7:00 p.m., Awards Banquet, Holiday Inn at the University of Memphis-3700 Central Avenue
- Saturday, May 6th, 11:00 a.m., Picnic, Federal Corrections Institute, 1101 John Dennie Road
