Release Date: July 31, 2008

Two men were locked inside a truck trailer for a half-hour this morning after being robbed outside a convenience store in southeast Shelby County.

Just before 10 o’clock, Delano Davis, 26, of Rowelett, Texas and Demario McShan, 19, of Forrest City, Arkansas, went to the Bennington Mini-Mart at 5144 Riverdale to deliver groceries.

After making the delivery, the men walked back to their tractor-trailer from the Forrest City Grocery Company which was parked in an isolated area behind the store.  Two men, armed with pistols ordered Davis and McShan to climb into the truck trailer and turn around.

The suspects then took four cases of cigarettes worth $1,000.  The suspects escaped in a black SUV thought to be a Chevy Tahoe or Suburban. After about 30 minutes, a beer truck from the Memphis D. Canale Company pulled up next to the trailer to make a delivery at the store.

One of the two men in the beer truck, Brian Evans, 43, of Memphis, heard Davis and McShan beating on the walls of the trailer. Evans unlatched the door and freed the men.  Although hot from the high temperature inside the trailer, they were not hurt.
