Shelby County Sheriff’s Detectives have charged five people, three of them juveniles, for robbing a man and stealing his car earlier this week in South-East Shelby County.
Four of the suspects were arrested late last night. The fifth suspect was taken into custody today by detectives with the General Investigation and Street Crimes Bureaus.
Deputies say Terrell Brown, 18, Eric Caston, 18, and three other teenagers, all 17 years old, robbed Maurice Spruille, 40, at a friend’s home in the 6600 block of Sleepy Oak about three o’clock Tuesday afternoon.
The suspects, one armed with a pistol, surrounded Spruille in the front yard and demanded cash. As Spruille handed over the money, one of the juveniles sped away in Spruille’s 1997 Pontiac Trans Am. It was later recovered by the Southaven, Mississippi Police Department. The other suspects got away on foot.
When Deputies arrested Brown at his home on Crested Oak Cove, they found the pistol used during the carjacking hidden under a bed. Deputies also found a 1.6 g bag of marijuana. Brown was charged with aggravated robbery, carjacking, possession of a controlled substance and theft of property over $1,000.
The other four suspects have each been charged with aggravated robbery, carjacking and theft of property over $1,000. Pictures of the juveniles are not being released.
