Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested three people for breaking into vehicles and stealing credit cards, social security cards and checks. The cards were then used to make purchases throughout several states.
|
Deputies were led to the three suspects after investigating a theft at the home of one of the suspects. On September 6, Deputies were called to a house in the 7800 block of Nelson Woods Cove. A woman there shared the house with Antonio Hawthorne, 23. She claimed Hawthorne stole two of her rings.
While investigating the woman’s complaint, Deputies recovered a shoebox that contained credit cards and other identification cards that belonged to several people. The cards were then traced to illegal purchases made during the past several months. Flat screen TVs, household items and clothes were bought at stores in Memphis, Shelby County, Florida, Mississippi and possibly other areas.
After arresting Hawthorne, Deputies linked two other people to the scheme.
Yesterday, Deputies arrested Marlon Quarles, 34, of Memphis, during a traffic stop on Dexter just east of Germantown Road. Sheriff’s detectives then went to his home and found evidence of other purchases that were made with stolen credit cards. Investigators say Quarles is currently on federal parole for a bank robbery.
Detectives believe Quarles, Hawthorne and another suspect, Camillia Lucas, 22, of Memphis, were involved in the scheme. Sheriff’s Deputies also arrested Lucas yesterday afternoon.
Deputies say the three suspects face several charges. Marlon Quarles has been charged with Identify Theft Trafficking. Camillia Lucas has been charged with Identify Theft Trafficking and Forgery.
Antonio Hawthorne has been charged with 8 counts of Burglary from a Vehicle, 8 counts of Theft of Property Under $500, and Identify Theft Trafficking.
Deputies say Hawthorne has also been charged by Bartlett Police for robbing a real estate agent a couple of weeks ago. The agent said a man took her ring valued at $25,000 while showing him a home in the Bartlett area.
