Shelby County Deputies Capture Burglar Who Rammed Sheriff’s Office Squad Car Last Week
Release Date: June 9, 2004
Shelby County Deputies have a man in custody tonight who they believe rammed a deputy’s squad car last week during a home burglary.
Detectives have charged Kenneth Lee Rushing, 45, of Memphis, with two counts of Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Burglary.
Deputies say they took Rushing into custody late this afternoon after a tip from Crime Stoppers. Officers say they believe he was the man who was burglarizing a home near Arlington last Friday when deputies surprised him as he left the home.
As he drove out of the driveway, he rammed his car into a Sheriff’s Patrol car. The deputy driving the squad car wasn’t hurt. Investigators say Rushing has admitted to ramming the squad car, burglarizing the home and have also charged him with another recent home burglary in East Shelby County.
