Deputies Capture Inmate Who Escaped from Arkansas Jail

A man wanted for escaping from jail in Fordyce, Arkansas is awaiting extradition back to Arkansas today thanks to the work of Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Squad.

Deputies and other officers with the United States Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force arrested David Shannon Ray last night about 10:30 in East Shelby County. Deputies found him hiding in a guest room at the Traveler’s Inn at 1776 Whitten Road.

Ray and another man escaped from a Fordyce, Arkansas jail early Monday morning. Deputies say Ray, 26, gave them no resistance. He was armed with a BB pistol. Another man in the guest room with Ray was not arrested.

Deputies continue their search for 20 year-old Humberto Fortanelli who escaped with Ray from the Dallas County, Arkansas Jail in Fordyce. To get free, the inmates broke a bullet-resistant window in their cell. Ray was being held on an aggravated robbery charge. Fortanelli was being held on criminal attempt to commit murder and other charges.
