Deputies received information that James D. Moore, 42, of Memphis, was buying and selling stolen property from an ice business at 1362 McLemore Street in South Memphis.
Earlier this month on March 2, 2007, undercover Deputies went to the business and posed as thieves who wanted to sell stolen property.
Deputies say Moore offered to buy power tools for $170.00. Moore was arrested and charged with Attempted Theft of Property valued $1,000-$10,000.
Investigators learned another stolen property enterprise was allegedly operating at two businesses on Summer Avenue in the Binghampton area.
Just after one o’clock last Tuesday afternoon, March 13, undercover Deputies visited J.R.’s Auto Sales/Quick Cash located at 3251 Summer Avenue and J.R.’s Tax Service at 3279 Summer Avenue.
Deputies went to the businesses posing as thieves with a 32 inch LCD TV and power tools. While at the tax business at 3279 Summer Avenue, investigators say Bruce Nelson, 59, of Memphis and John Marbry, 66, of Atoka, Tennessee, agreed to buy the items worth more than $4,000 for only $600.
After placing Nelson and Marbry under arrest, ALERT Squad Deputies searched the businesses and found other stolen property including an air compressor, battery charger and other shop tools. Deputies also seized $26,152.69 in cash and two pistols. Three other bank accounts belonging to the business worth $96,000 were also seized.
While that raid was being conducted at the tax business on Summer Avenue, deputies visited a house at 2059 Brighton Road. Gary Mitchell, 50, who lives at the house, was arrested for possessing 313 Dilaudid pills which were found inside along with drug paraphernalia.
