Deputy Jonathan Astor

A Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy surrendered himself today at the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office after a warrant was issued alleging he assaulted a woman last night at a hotel.

Deputy Jonathan Astor, 33, currently assigned to the Fugitive Division, turned himself in to Tunica County Sheriff’s Deputies this afternoon. He was charged with Domestic Simple Assault. Astor has been relieved of duty with pay. The case is being investigated by the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office.

This is the third Shelby County Deputy Sheriff arrested this week on domestic violence charges.

“I have immediately asked the Director of our Training Academy and the command staff of the Sheriff’s Office to schedule training classes on domestic violence for all employees. We in law enforcement are held to a high standard and must adhere to the law. We have a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy about domestic violence. Those on our staff struggling with personal relationship issues are being urged to seek assistance to keep from being involved these types of incidents,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Astor was hired as a Sheriff’s Deputy in September of 1997. A copy of his personnel file is available at the Public Affairs Bureau, 201 Poplar, 9th Floor, in the Sheriff’s Administrative Officers.
