Shelby County Deputies Arrested In Separate Domestic Violence Cases

Two Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies have been relieved of duty with pay regarding separate domestic violence incidents yesterday.

Deputy Michael Hoard, 35, currently assigned to the Fugitive Bureau, was arrested by Memphis Police Department detectives following a domestic violence incident early yesterday afternoon.

The matter involved Hoard and a former girlfriend. He was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault-Domestic Violence, both Felonies. The incident involved the woman and her unborn baby.

Details about the case are being released by the Memphis Police Department Felony Response Unit.

Hoard has been a Deputy Sheriff since 1997 and served a brief time as a Reserve Deputy.

In another unrelated incident, Deputy James Taber, 42, currently assigned to the Patrol Bureau, was arrested by Tipton County Sheriff’s Deputies yesterday afternoon in Mason, Tennessee about 3:00.

Taber was charged with one count of Aggravated Domestic Assault, a Felony and one count of Domestic Assault, a Misdemeanor, in a matter involving his wife and step daughter.

That investigation is being conducted by detectives with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office.

Taber has been a full-time Deputy Sheriff since 2004. Before that, he served as a Reserve Deputy from 1998 through 2004.

Personnel records for both deputies have been copied and may be picked up at the Public Affairs Bureau, 9th Floor, 201 Poplar, in the Sheriff’s Administrative Office.
