Sheriff’s Deputies Graduate Tonight

Thirteen (13) Deputies will graduate tonight from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy.
“We are pleased to graduate these Deputies. These Deputies are to be commended for their efforts to serve our community,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
For the past four and a half weeks, the 13 deputies were part of an accelerated training class.
Each candidate had previous law enforcement experience. Some served at other law enforcement agencies. Others were already Reserve Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
Twenty-four (24) other recruits with no commissioned law enforcement experience remain in the training class. They are set to graduate later this summer.
To be a Deputy Sheriff, applicants must complete almost 18 weeks of training which includes the use of firearms, physical agility, knowledge of Tennessee Law and Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures.
Tonight’s ceremony will be held at the Sheriff’s Office Training Academy, 993 Dovecrest, Memphis, Tennessee, at 7:00 p.m.
The new Deputies will be assigned to the Patrol Division. The Sheriff’s Office has 510 commissioned personnel assigned to various bureaus.
