Shelby County Sheriff’s Office To Graduate Deputies In Ceremony Wednesday Night

Release Date: November 15, 2004

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be graduating 25 full-time Deputies this week.

“We are pleased to graduate these Deputies. This is the first class of full-time Deputies to be hired by the Sheriff’s Office since the last class graduated in February of 2002. Public Safety is our top priority. These Deputies are to be commended for their desire to help keep Shelby County as safe as possible,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

All of the Deputies have had previous law enforcement experience. Fourteen (14) of the graduates formerly served as Reserve Deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

For the past month, the Deputies have been part of an accelerated training course which included firearms training, physical agility, and Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures. The Deputies will be immediately assigned to the Patrol Division.

The graduation ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at Al Chymia Shrine Temple, 5770 Shelby Oaks Drive, Memphis, Tennessee, at 7 p.m.

With Wednesday’s graduation, the Sheriff’s Office will now have 486 full-time Deputies. That total includes the command staff. The Sheriff’s Office still has 29 Deputy Sheriff vacancies. Another recruit class is planned for early 2005.
