Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Promotes Deputies To Command Positions

Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell announced today seven promotions in the law enforcement division of the Sheriff’s Office. These are the first promotions at the Sheriff’s Office since Sheriff Luttrell took office in 2002.

“It took us several months to create a new promotions process that not only tested the applicants’ knowledge of department procedures, but who demonstrated high leadership abilities. The promotions reflect the outstanding commitment these Deputies have made to bring the Sheriff’s Office to new levels of accountability and professionalism,” said Sheriff Luttrell.

Those being promoted had to pass rigorous written examinations and go before a citizen review board. Each promotion candidate’s work history was reviewed as well as his/her attendance record. Additionally, the finalists had to appear before the review panel and present their leadership ideas for the Sheriff’s Office.

Here are those Deputies who will be promoted:

	Captain Steve Crouch, assigned to the General Investigation Bureau (detectives), hired in 1975, will be promoted to Inspector
	Lieutenant Bill Sears, assigned to Narcotics, hired in 1970, will be promoted to Captain
	Lieutenant Terry Yarbrough, assigned to the Patrol Division, hired in 1985, will be promoted to Captain
	Sergeant Gloria White, assigned to General Investigation Bureau (detectives), hired in 1980, will be promoted to Lieutenant
	Sergeant Cecil Booker, assigned to the Fugitive Division, hired in 1981, will be promoted to Lieutenant
	Sergeant Ernest Long, assigned to the Patrol Division, hired in 1982, will be promoted to Lieutenant
	Sergeant Jackie Setliff, assigned to the Patrol Division, hired in 1972, will be promoted to Lieutenant

The effective date for the promotions and a ceremony to honor these deputies will be announced soon.
