Deputies Urge Citizens To “Designate Before You Celebrate” This Holiday Weekend
Release Date: December 30, 2005
Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the Metro D.U.I. Squad, Patrol and Traffic Divisions will be on high alert on this holiday weekend to stop anyone they believe may be driving under the influence.
“There will be lots of celebrating going on for the New Year. We’re urging those who may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs to designate a sober driver and not operate a vehicle. We’ll be using all of our resources at the Sheriff’s Office to keep the streets safe from impaired drivers,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
Deputies will join officers from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and other Shelby County municipalities who will be in a “zero tolerance” mode this weekend for those who violate traffic laws.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will also have 20 Reserve Deputies on foot patrols in the downtown area this weekend. Thousands of people are expected to be on Beale Street tomorrow evening to celebrate the New Year.
While on their downtown patrols, Deputies will be paying close attention to those being served alcohol. Employees of business that sell alcohol to minors will be arrested.
