Alvin MontgomerySheriff’s Deputies have charged a Shelby County man with shooting his former girlfriend and attempting to also shoot her sister during an argument.

Detectives say about three o’clock yesterday afternoon, Alvin Montgomery, 48, was at his home in the 6600 block of May Springs Drive in South East Shelby County.

He had shared the home with his former girlfriend, Viontyna Durham, 32. Ms. Durham and her sister, Jernal Young, 22, drove to the house to get some of Ms. Durham’s belongings.

Investigators say following the shooting, Montgomery called 9-1-1 and reported what happened. When deputies arrived, they say Montgomery had already put down his pistol and gave himself up.

Alvin Montgomery has been charged with two counts of Criminal Attempt Second Degree Murder. He is being held at the Shelby County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Ms. Durham continues to recover at the Regional Medical Center.
