Two men have been charged in connection with last month’s killing of two people at an apartment community near Shelby Drive and Hacks Cross. Detectives arrested 21-year-old Dan Jones and 21-year-old Stanley Johnson, both of Memphis, on May 28, 2003.

Investigators say Dan Jones has been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder. Stanley Johnson has been charged with being an accessory after the fact to wit First Degree Murder. On April 11, 2003, 25-year-old Maurice Beaty and 24-year-old Lajuana Carruthers were found dead at an apartment community near Hacks Cross and Shelby Drive. Both had been tied up with duct tape and shot. Investigators say the killing may be related to drug activity.

Both suspects are in the Shelby County Jail. No bond set has been set on Dan Jones. Stanley Johnson is being held on $30,000 bond. At the time of his arrest, Johnson was wanted on Aggravated Assault charges for an incident earlier this year.
