Weekend Drowning Victim Identified
Release Date: May 31, 2005
Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies say the man pulled from a tributary of the Loosahatchie River near Arlington early this morning has been identified. The victim is Ted Evans, 35, who lived in the 100 block of Dogwood in Oakland, Tennessee.
Evans’ body surfaced about 6:30 this morning and was discovered by a Shelby County Detective searching the site where the drowning happened.
The detective, a team of his fellow investigators and more than 20 Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Volunteers had spent almost 30 hours the past three days searching the popular fishing spot along Gallaway Levee Road near Highway 205.
Investigators say Evans and a friend had gone to the riverbank Saturday afternoon. Later that evening, Evans fell into the deep water and could not make it back to the shore.
Chief Billy Phillips and officers from the Gallaway Police Department, rescue workers with the Gallaway Fire Department and Fayette County Emergency Services also assisted the Sheriff’s Office in the recovery effort.
Investigators say there will be an autopsy of Evans’ body by the Shelby County Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of his death.
