Deputies and other officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad spent several hours last night in the Millington area conducting a traffic safety initiative. The Metro D.U.I. Squad is comprised of officers with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Germantown Police Department.

Officers focused their attention in the area near Fite Road. Deputies set up traffic safety checkpoints to spot drivers and their passengers not wearing seatbelts. When not at the checkpoints, officers watched for drivers who were speeding, driving recklessly or impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Arrests: 2 (for Driving Under the Influence)

• 14 No Seatbelt
• 7 Disregarding Traffic Signal/Sign
• 2 No Driver’s License
• 1 Non-Moving Violation

Last night’s traffic enforcement initiative was funded by a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office to help stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
