D.U.I. Squad Targeted Violators in Weekend Traffic Initiative

Deputies and other officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad spent six hours this past weekend near Millington conducting a traffic safety initiative. The Metro D.U.I. Squad is comprised of officers with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Germantown Police Department.
Officers focused their attention in the area near Fite Road. Deputies set up traffic safety checkpoints to spot drivers and their passengers not wearing seatbelts. When not at the checkpoints, officers watched for drivers who were speeding, driving recklessly or impaired by alcohol or drugs.
Total Violations: 59
- 2 Arrests-Driving Under the Influence
- 1 Misdemeanor Citation (Minor Possessing Beer)
- 35 Speeding
- 10 Disregarding Traffic Signal/Sign
- 6 Non-Moving Violations
- 3 Violation of State Registration
- 2 No Driver’s License
Last weekend’s traffic enforcement initiative was funded by a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office to help stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
