Cordova Man Dies in Traffic Crash in Eads Area

A man driving in the Eads community died this morning after his car collided with another vehicle.

Traffic deputies say Anthony Payne, 48, of Cordova, was driving a 2003 Honda Accord eastbound on Raleigh LaGrange about 6 o'clock this morning.

Investigators say as he rounded a curve just west of Wickliff Creek, Payne lost control of the car which slid sideways into the path of another vehicle driven by Katherine Streitenberger, 44, also of Cordova. Her car, a 1998 Honda Accord, struck Payne's car in the passenger side.

Payne was airlifted to The Med where he died a short time later. Ms. Streitenberger was also taken to The Med by ambulance. She is in stable condition this morning.

No other passengers were in the vehicles.  Deputies say both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Investigators do not believe alcohol was involved in the crash.
