Deputies Target Cordova and East Shelby County In “Zero Tolerance” Enforcement Effort

Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Deputies last Friday night (January 27) concentrated their efforts to combat crime and enforce traffic laws in Cordova, sections of North East Memphis, and East Shelby County.

For several hours, Sheriff’s Office Deputies and support personnel patrolled Germantown Road, Macon Road, Houston Levee and other nearby areas.

“Each day we track crime and then target our enforcement efforts where we have seen increases. During the past several months we’ve seen more home burglaries, vehicle break-ins and other crimes in this section of the county. We want to reassure the people who live and work in these neighborhoods that the Sheriff’s Office will continue to maintain a high presence to discourage crime,” said Sheriff Mark Luttrell, Jr.

Here are the results of the crime suppression effort last Friday night:

Arrests- 61

  • 13 Fugitives
  • 7 juvenile summons
  • 2 D.U.I.
  • 9 drug charges
  • 4 other charges
  • 26 misdemeanor citations (16 clerks at businesses who sold alcohol to minors)

Narcotics Recovered

  • 75 grams marijuana
  • 47 grams crack cocaine

Vehicles Seized - 1

Guns Seized - 3 pistols

Cash Seized - $1596

Traffic Tickets - 368

  • Citations-219
  • Courtesy Warnings-149

Those receiving citations require booking at the Records and Identification Section at the Shelby County Jail and mandatory court appearance.

The “zero-tolerance” enforcement effort also focused on traffic safety. Deputies were stationed at various intersections in North East Memphis and East Shelby County checking for seat belt and other traffic violations.

In all, about 125 personnel from the Sheriff’s Office conducted the enforcement effort including a large number of Reserve Deputies and volunteers from the Sheriff’s Emergency Services and Special Services Bureaus.

These large-scale crime suppression initiatives will be on-going in Shelby County neighborhoods.
