Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies say an experimental airplane made an emergency landing near Millington this afternoon.
Just before two o’clock, the pilot, Daniel Lukschander, 48, of Lakeland, was on approach to land at Charles Baker Airport.
He called 9-1-1 from his cell phone to report engine trouble. A Sheriff’s dispatcher linked Lukschander to officials at Charles Baker Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration.
The “Lanceair” plane landed in a field just west of Sykes Road at Raleigh-Millington Road. Lukschander was not hurt and no other persons were on board the experimental aircraft.
The F.A.A. will determine the cause of the plane’s engine malfunction.
