Sheriff's Office Explorers Graduate Tomorrow Night

Nine (9) young people will graduate tomorrow night from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program. The ten-week course prepares teenagers and young adults for careers in the criminal justice system. Many go on to serve as law enforcement officers or officers at correctional facilities.
The Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program provides opportunities for young people to discover their talents and serve others. I commend Deputy Amber Roettgen and her team of advisors who oversee this vital program of the Sheriff’s Office,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
The graduation ceremony will be held Tuesday, July 15, at Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3427 Appling Road. The program begins at 7:00 p.m.
Explorers work 16 hours a month in various bureaus of the Sheriff’s Office. The young people also assist at various community events.Here are the qualifications for membership in the Explorer Program:
- Be between 14 and 20 years of age
- Pass a criminal background check and physical agility test
- Maintain a 2.0 grade point average in school
It costs $20.00 to join the Explorers with yearly dues of $10.00. For more information about the Explorer Program, call (901) 545-2867.
