Release Date: October 4, 2007
The Exchange Clubs of Bartlett and Frayser will honor Explorers with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office next week for their service to the public.
Explorers are young people who receive “hands-on” training which prepares them for careers as Sheriff’s Deputies, Deputy Jailers or other positions in law enforcement. Explorers also assist at various community events.
On Tuesday, October 9, 2007, Sheriff’s Explorers will be honored for working recently at the Delta Fair. Explorers assisted at parking lots sponsored by the Exchange Clubs.
The awards ceremony starts at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Sheriff’s Office Training Academy at 993 Dovecrest.
The search continues for others to join the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post. “Young people need a way to discover their talents and understand the importance of helping others. The Explorer Program provides opportunities for both. I’m calling on teenagers and young adults across Shelby County to be part of our post,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
Here are the Explorer qualifications for membership:
- Be between 14 and 20 years of age
- Have parental approval (below the age of 18)
- Pass a criminal history background check
- Pass a physical assessment
