Release Date: May 16, 2006
Officers from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office who died in the line of duty will be remembered at two ceremonies this week.
On Thursday, May 18 at 9:30 a.m., Sheriff’s Deputies will gather at Memorial Park Cemetery with other law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency services workers. A service to honor those who have given their lives in the line of duty will be held at the “Fallen Heroes Memorial” located near the entrance of the cemetery.
Then on Friday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m., a ceremony will be held to dedicate the new Sheriff’s Office “Wall of Honor,” which has been constructed just outside the main entrance to the Sheriff’s Administration Offices on the 9th Floor of 201 Poplar Avenue.
The display honors the twelve (12) Sheriff’s Office deputies and deputy jailers who have been killed in the line of duty since 1904.
The bronze likeness of Deputy Timothy Dunn, who died in a traffic crash while in route to investigate a complaint in October 2004, will be unveiled along with another memorial plaque for Deputy Dunn which will be mounted at the Sheriff’s Training Academy.
