Elderly driver dies; another man critically injured in head-on traffic crash in North Shelby County today

Release Date: September 30, 2003

Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies say an elderly man driving along the 3800 block of Shelby Road near Millington may have died before his car ran head-on into another vehicle. Traffic investigators say Harry Brewer, 81, of Millington was dead at the scene of the crash which happened about noon today.

Witnesses say Brewer's car crashed head-on into a pick up truck driven by Jeff Jolly, 44, of Memphis . Emergency workers who responded to the crash say Brewer may have fallen unconscious before the accident which caused his car to veer into the path of the truck. The medical examiner will be asked to rule on the official cause of death.

Investigators say alcohol was not involved in the crash. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and speed was apparently not a factor since there were no skid marks on the roadway.
