Memphis Man Killed in Traffic Crash on Bill Morris Parkway

Release Date: October 3, 2006

Shelby County Traffic Deputies believe speeding led to a deadly traffic crash on Bill Morris Parkway in South-East Shelby County last evening.

Just after 6 o’clock, Gregory Booth, 49, of Memphis, was driving his Ford Explorer S.U.V. west on Bill Morris Parkway when he lost control of the vehicle near Forest Hill-Irene Road.

Witnesses told deputies Booth was driving at a high rate of speed and weaving across lanes of traffic just before the crash.

Deputies say Booth’s vehicle briefly left the roadway and when he attempted to correct the steering, the S.U.V. flipped several times ejecting him from the vehicle.

No one else was riding in Booth’s Explorer and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Traffic investigators say Booth was not wearing a seat belt.  Deputies say they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
