Shelby County man dies of injuries from weekend vehicle crash

Release Date: February 9, 2004

A weekend vehicle crash claimed the life of a Shelby County man. Michael A. Kennedy, 39, was killed last Friday evening, February 7, 2004, when the pick-up truck he was driving stuck a tree on Pisgah Road in East Shelby County. No other persons were inside the vehicle.

Traffic investigators say Kennedy apparently lost control of his 1993 GMC truck just before 10 p. m. as he traveled south on Pisgah Road near Latting Road. Officers say the truck left the roadway and rolled over. Kennedy, who was trapped inside the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers say he was not wearing a safety belt. Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash. Blood alcohol tests have been ordered to see whether Kennedy might have been drinking before the mishap.
