Few Leads to Identify Man’s Body Found near Northaven

Shelby County Sheriff’s Detectives are still trying to determine the identify of a man found this past Tuesday afternoon in North Shelby County not far from North Watkins and Highway 51.  A man riding a bicycle along North Watkins discovered the man’s body about one o’clock.  The body was partially submerged in a backwater area of the Loosahatchie River.

The Shelby County Medical Examiner says there were no obvious signs of how the man died.  Due the condition of the body, the man’s fingerprints could not be lifted.  Detectives say the man appeared to be between 35-50 years of age, stood approximately 5’11”, weighted about 150 pounds and had black/gray hair.  The man also had a mustache.  He was nicely dressed in a fully-buttoned suit:

  • Maroon suit coat
  • Tan Van Heusen shirt
  • Tan pants
  • Tan vest
  • Multicolored tie
  • Brown Stacy Adams lace-up shoes which were tied
  • Brown socks
  • Brown woven leather belt
  • Silver watch on his RIGHT wrist which had a blue star on the face made from small dots

A pack of generic cigarettes, small brown pocket knife and a toothbrush were also found in his clothes.

Detectives are continuing to check missing person files and interview business operators and residents in the area where the body was discovered.
