“From The Sheriff's Desk” Now Showing on Memphis Cable TV
Release Date: February 14, 2005
Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell is now hosting a 30-minute TV show called, “From the Sheriff's Desk.” The program features initiatives of the Sheriff's Office and how it assists the community.
The pilot program aired last month. It featured interviews with Mr. and Mrs. Bobbie Studard. The Studards' home on Mahoney Road near Millington was the scene of a murder in March of 2003. A man unrelated to the Studards was shot and killed on their front porch by another man. After the killing, the Studards formed a neighborhood watch group and began meeting routinely with Deputies.
Since then, Mr. and Mrs. Studard have joined the Sheriff's Office as members of the “Special Services Squad.” Representatives from that unit visit senior citizens in the community and participate in other events involving the Sheriff's Office.
The 2nd broadcast, now airing, highlights the command staff and members of the Metro Gang Unit. Sheriff's Office Chief Inspector Dave Wing, Memphis Police Major Pat Lovett and Metro Gang Unit Sergeant Andy Boyd of the Sheriff's Office, discuss with Sheriff Luttrell gang crime in Shelby County. The group talks about specific ways the unit is helping prevent gang crime in the Memphis and Shelby County Public Schools.
The show airs on Memphis Cablevision Channel 17 every Thursday at Noon. It also airs on Time Warner Channel 6 every 2nd Monday at 6:00 p.m. Questions about the show or to offer ideas about topics, call Steve Shular, Public Affairs Officer at the Sheriff's Office, at (901) 545-5532.
