Man Identified Who Was Killed at Gun Range
Release Date: January 6, 2007
Shelby County Sheriff’s Detectives say George (Chris) O’Hearn has been identified as the man who was accidentally shot to death last Friday afternoon while target shooting at an East Shelby County gun range.
The shooting happened just after one o’clock at the Memphis Sport Shooting Association range at 9428 Old Brownsville Road.
Detectives O’Hearn was killed after he attempted to place his pistol into a shoulder holster.
The gun discharged and the bullet struck him in the chest. He died at the scene.
The Shelby County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy. However, Investigators believe O’Hearn died as a result of the accidental shooting.
This was the second shooting at the range in the past few months. In August, another man also shot himself while attempting to put his pistol into a shoulder holster after target shooting.
