Man Killed Accidentally At a Shooting Range Today

Shelby County Sheriff’s Detectives say a man was accidentally shot to death this afternoon while target shooting at an East Shelby County gun range.

The shooting happened just after one o’clock at the Memphis Sport Shooting Association range at 9428 Old Brownsville Road.

Detectives the man was killed after he attempted to place his pistol into a shoulder holster.

The gun discharged and the bullet struck him in the chest. He died at the scene.

The victim’s name won’t be released until his relatives are notified.

The Shelby County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy. However, Investigators believe the man died as a result of the accidental shooting.

This was the second shooting at the range in the past few months. In August, another man also shot himself while attempting to put his pistol into a shoulder holster after target shooting.
