Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detectives have recovered $120,000 worth of marijuana, a fully loaded assault rifle and other guns at a home near Midtown.
About 2:30 yesterday afternoon, Narcotics Deputies served a search warrant at 1596 Southern Avenue. Deputies knocked on the door and identified themselves. Receiving no answer, they entered through the front door.
Once inside, Deputies found 130 pounds of marijuana. The one-pound blocks were hidden in two metal garbage cans, a shop vacuum and clothes dryer.
Deputies arrested Gary Lewis, 27, who lives at the house. Lewis tried to run from Deputies but was captured in a bedroom. Deputies also found $525.00 in Lewis’ trousers.

Lewis was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, distribute and sell marijuana. Deputies say the guns were stolen which led to Lewis being also charged with theft of property over $500 and possession of the guns with altered identification plates.
