Highway 70 Traffic Safety Effort Yields 104 Citations
Release Date: January 18, 2005
Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies continued their “Zero Tolerance” enforcement efforts this past weekend. Through a grant by the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation, Governor's Highway Safety Office, Deputies have been conducting traffic safety initiatives to target dangerous and impaired driving. Highway 70 between Germantown Road and State Route 385 was the location for the enforcement effort conducted this past Friday and yesterday.
“The stretch of roadway has been the site of deadly traffic crashes during the past few months, one involving one of our officers. Also, the public has reported to us several incidents of speeding and reckless driving on Highway 70, especially during the morning and afternoon rush hours. We certainly wanted to respond to these concerns,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
Deputies wrote 104 citations. Here is the breakdown of the violations:
- Speeding-70
- Seatbelt-33
- Violation of the light law (headlight)-1
The “Zero Tolerance” traffic initiatives will be on-going as Deputies identify roadways in Shelby County where speeding, dangerous driving and traffic crashes are occurring.
