Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies spent several hours last evening in a “zero-tolerance” traffic enforcement initiative. Deputies spent much of their time conducting seatbelt checkpoints at various intersections in Cordova and South-East Shelby County, locations of frequent traffic crashes.
Here’s a list of the 91 violations issued by Sheriff’s Office Deputies during the traffic safety effort.
- Speeding - 62
- Seatbelt - 10
- Disregarding Traffic Signal or Sign - 7
- No Driver’s License - 6
- Non-Moving Violation - 3
- State Registration - 2
- Child Restraint Violation - 1
Last evening’s holiday safety initiative was funded by a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office. The GHSO provides money to law enforcement agencies across Tennessee to help reduce alcohol-related traffic crashes, especially those involving drivers who use alcohol under the legal drinking age of 21.
