Holiday DUI Effort Prevents Traffic Fatalities
Release Date: January 5, 2004
Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell, Jr. says a high visibility traffic enforcement effort by Sheriff's Deputies and the Metro D. U. I. Unit resulted in no one being killed or seriously injured by an alcohol or drug impaired driver during the week of the New Year holiday.
“Our officers did an outstanding job in patrolling the streets and conducting traffic safety checks near several busy intersections. Their hard work paid off,” said Sheriff Luttrell.
Grant money from the Governor's Highway Safety Office enabled the Sheriff's Office to schedule more officers to patrol the streets at peak times on New Year's Eve and on the weekend following New Year's Day.
“This was an outstanding effort by our DUI, Traffic and Patrol officers. We will continue to take advantage of opportunities throughout 2004 to ensure the safety of motorists on Shelby County roadways,” added Sheriff Luttrell.
