Suspected robber shot recently by his intended victim in Memphis now faces charges in home invasion in East Shelby County

Release Date: March 18, 2004

Shelby County sheriff’s detectives have charged a man and his female accomplice with barging into a home near the Cordova area, tying up the owner and robbing him.

Investigators say James Thweatt, 38, of Memphis, is currently in The Med recovering from gunshot wounds from an incident this past Sunday. Memphis Police say Thweatt was shot as he attempted to rob a man at his Raleigh home.

Shelby County detectives now believe Thweatt and another woman are responsible for a home invasion in East Shelby County the day before the Raleigh area incident.

Detectives say a man who lives in the 2300 block of Meadow Ridge near Cordova answered a knock at his front door this past Saturday afternoon. Investigators believe James Thweatt posed as a delivery man.

As the homeowner opened the front door, the victim said Thweatt, armed with a knife, forced his way into the home. The victim said Thweatt tied him with duct tape.

Within a few minutes, investigators allege Cindy Wilson, 29, of Memphis, and another man not yet in custody, arrived at house and assisted with robbery.

Detectives also believe Cindy Wilson had been to the house a week before this Saturday’s home invasion and robbed the victim of a thousand dollars during her visit. Cindy Wilson faces a charge of theft over one thousand dollars for that crime along with the aggravated robbery charge associated with the home invasion.

James Thweatt has been charged with aggravated robbery. Thweatt is recovering at The Med from his gunshot wound. Cindy Wilson is in the Shelby County Jail.

Anyone with information about the other man associated with the home invasion on Meadow Ridge is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH (2274) or Sergeant Vernon Dollahite at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office General Investigation Bureau at (901) 545-5600.
