Hunter Found Dead of Apparent Lightening Strike

Release Date: September 13, 2004

Shelby County Sheriff’s Detectives say a Germantown man hunting yesterday in East Shelby County on Sunday was killed during a thunderstorm.

James Ellis, 53, of Germantown, had been hunting in a field near Highway 64 and Collierville Arlington Road. Just after four o’clock yesterday afternoon, the land owner found his body. A Tennessee State Wildlife Resources Officer was also at the scene when Sheriff’s Deputies arrived.

Although the Shelby County Medical Examiner will rule on the official cause of death, detectives say Ellis’ his wounds were consistent of the injuries suffered by someone struck by lightening.
