An Arkansas prison inmate who failed to return to his cell in Benton, Arkansas this past weekend was captured this week by Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Tommy Hollis, who was serving an 8-year prison term on drug charges, didn’t return to the Arkansas Department of Corrections facility Sunday afternoon after a weekend furlough. A warrant was issued for his arrest by the Saline County Arkansas Sheriff’s Office.

This past Tuesday evening, February 6, Hollis was a passenger in a car that was traveling the wrong way on North Watkins near Northaven.

Carolyn Bent, 21, of Proctor, Arkansas, was driving the 1989 Oldsmobile 98 which was traveling south in the north-bound lane of North Watkins. Several vehicles narrowly missed the vehicle as it traveled in the wrong lane of traffic.

Shelby County Deputies Jeremy Drewery and Chad Brantley were able to get Bent to stop the vehicle. The Metro D.U.I. Squad was called and officers confirmed Ms. Bent was intoxicated.

Ms. Bent told Deputies she had been drinking, using crack and taking prescription drugs. When officers checked Hollis’ identification, they realized he was a fugitive from Benton, Arkansas.

During the traffic stop, Deputies also found two fleece Jackets and 12 DVD programs that had been stolen from the K-mart store in Raleigh Tuesday afternoon.

Store officials say the two will be charged with shoplifting the items which Deputies returned to the store.

Carolyn Bent was charged with Driving under the Influence of Alcohol and Drugs and Reckless Driving.

Authorities at the Arkansas Department of Corrections say Ms. Bent will also be charged with Harboring a Fugitive.

Hollis will be extradited back to Benton, Arkansas to face an Escape charge.
