Shelby County Jail Inmate Found Dead In His Cell

Donald CooperInvestigators say a Shelby County Jail inmate was found dead in his cell early this morning at 201 Poplar Avenue.

Donald Cooper, 47, of Memphis, was found on the floor of his cell by Deputy Jailers during a routine check of inmates.

Cooper, who was in a cell by himself, could not be revived and was pronounced dead by jail medical staff just after one o’clock this morning.

Cooper was admitted to the jail on April 18, 2006.

He had been arrested by Memphis Police Officers on charges of First Degree Murder and Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Shelby County Medical Examiner to determine what caused Cooper’s death.
