Jail Inmate Walks Away from Work Detail

Law enforcement officers are looking for an inmate who left his clean-up crew early this morning at the Shelby County Jail. He had been picking up trash and sweeping the area outside the Criminal Justice Center at 201 Poplar Avenue.

The inmate was part of a two-man crew being supervised by a corrections deputy. Shortly after one o’clock this morning, the guard reported him missing. Clean-up crews routinely work at times when there are few visitors at the justice center.

Jeffrey Vaughn, 31, of Memphis, was last seen near the intersection of Third at Poplar. He was being held in jail on various traffic, burglary and theft of property charges.

Anyone with information about Jeffrey Vaughn is asked to call the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Division at 545-5620.
