Release Date: January 3, 2008
Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies are looking for four men who robbed an elderly man early this morning after barging into his home near Shelby Forest. Just before three o’clock, Robert Dratnol, 71, who lives in the 6200 block of Shelby Trail in North Shelby County, heard someone breaking into a side door of his home.
The men wore masks and gloves. Two of the suspects had pistols. The suspects handcuffed Dratnol and then forced him to open a safe at the house. Dratnol said the men aimed their guns at his back and head while he opened the safe.
Dratnol told detectives the four suspects argued whether they should, “Kill him or cripple him.” That’s when one of the suspects pushed Dratnol into a bookshelf which injured his head. The injuries were not life-threatening.
After taking cash and jewelry, the suspects left the house. Dratnol was not able to see their vehicle before it sped away. Still handcuffed, Dratnol went to a neighbor’s home who called Sheriff’s Deputies.
Anyone with information about the home invasion is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH (2274) or the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office General Investigation Bureau at (901) 545-5600.
