Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies assisting in the aftermath of the Tornado in Jackson, Tennessee

Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell announced today that Sheriff’s Office personnel are already in Jackson, Tennessee assisting town officials in the wake of a killer tornado that moved through that city last evening. Another group of Deputies and support personnel will be leaving in the morning as well.

Chief Deputy Bill Oldham along with two search dogs, their owners, and two Emergency Services Volunteers are in Jackson today helping with the recovery effort. “We quickly realized the citizens of Jackson and Madison County needed immediate assistance,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell.

Tomorrow, about 25 personnel from the Sheriff’s Office will be helping keep area homes and businesses secure. Deputies from the Metro Gang Unit and Reserve Deputies will be leaving the Sheriff’s Substation in Arlington at 11670 Memphis Arlington Road at approximately 3:30 a.m. Then about 6:00 a.m. Emergency Services Volunteers will be leaving the Substation.

“We share in the grief over those killed and the horrific damage to Jackson and Madison County. We want the citizens, fellow law enforcement officers and emergency workers there to know we will be at their side at this most difficult time,” added Sheriff Luttrell.
