Jail Scuffle Injures Shelby County Deputy Jailer

A Shelby County Deputy Jailer received minor injuries last evening after an altercation that involved an inmate at the men’s facility at 201 Poplar.

Just after 6:30 p.m., inmate Trent Starks, in jail on first degree murder, refused a Deputy Jailer’s orders to go back into his cell on the 4th Floor.

Another Deputy Jailer, Desi Clemons, walked into the cell area to assist his fellow officer, that’s when Starks hit Deputy Jailer Clemons in the face.

Deputy Jailer Clemons was taken to Methodist University Hospital where he was treated and released.

Inmate Starks was charged with assaulting a jail officer.

Starks has been moved into a solitary cell at the jail.
