Upcoming job fair to assist displaced jailers

A job fair will be held next week to assist those involved in the personnel reduction plan at the Shelby County Jail.

Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell, Jr. announced today that jail employees will get the benefit of meeting in person with representatives of more than 20 businesses in Memphis, Eastern Arkansas and other out of town companies that may have openings for the 326 jail employees who will be losing their jobs.

“We wanted to let these workers know they have our full support in finding new jobs. I asked that we conduct this job fair because of the inconvenience this will have on these employees and their families,” said Sheriff Luttrell.

The job fair will be held on April 9, 2003 at the Memphis Convention Center from 10:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Companies that will be sending representatives include:

The job fair is open to only employees at the Shelby County Jail. The public is not invited.
