Shelby County Jail detainee charged following yesterday’s escape

Ronnie WhiteA male detainee who escaped from the Shelby County Jail in downtown Memphis yesterday has now been charged for his brief escape. Twenty-year-old Ronnie White has been charged with Evading Arrest and Escape from Felony Incarceration.

White ran off the loading dock of the jail about 4:15 yesterday afternoon. Police and jail security officers caught up with White less than a half-hour later in the 400 block of Sixth Street in North Memphis. Memphis Police arrested White without incident and returned him to the Shelby County Jail.

White was assigned to work in the jail laundry and has lost his privileges as a result of the escape. White has been in the Shelby County Jail since December 2002, awaiting court for Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated kidnapping.

Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell says the investigation is continuing to determine how White managed to leave the facility.
