MAJOR METH DEALERS CAPTURED IN A JOINT OPERATION

As a result of a joint narcotics operation, the Memphis Police Organized Crime Unit and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit captured two major methamphetamine dealers from the Memphis Area during an undercover investigation that began in November 2007. A woman was also charged with felony drug and weapon charges.

Mario Scruggs, 27 and Johnathan Norman, 30, were both charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver (methamphetamine).

“The Memphis Police Department continues to address the war on drugs within our community. Whether it is through our undercover program or joint efforts with other agencies,” said Police Director Larry Godwin. “We will aggressively pursue any and all criminal activities to ensure a safe Memphis and Shelby County,” added Director Godwin.

Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell said, “This investigation is the result of our continued effort to rid Shelby County of methamphetamine and the criminal activity associated with it. Our Deputies, working with Memphis Police Officers, did an outstanding job which led to the arrest of these two people."

On Tuesday, February 12th, detectives from OCU Drug Response Team executed a search warrant at 8160 Broadford Drive in the South wind Lake Apartments where over 800 grams of methamphetamines were recovered. Scruggs was taken into police custody at this location. Marijuana, powder cocaine and a handgun were also seized from the apartment.

A search warrant executed at 5947 Whisper Valley resulted with the arrest of Kisha Jackson, 29 who was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (2 counts), Possession of a deadly Weapon During Commission of a Crime and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Detectives with OCU seized a loaded 45 caliber handgun, marijuana and 623 grams of Cocaine.

The investigation continued on Tuesday when Shelby County Narcotics Team executed a search warrant at 10486 Mabry Mill Road in Cordova. Johnathan Norman was taken into custody and SCSO detectives recovered a large amount of cash and four weapons from the residence. Two of the handguns were reported stolen.

Several vehicles were seized in this cooperative drug investigation.
