Traffic Enforcement Effort Nets Six Arrests and 364 Traffic Citations During Busy July 4th Weekend

Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies were on high alert this past holiday weekend for speeding drivers and those who were driving under the influence. Officers say their combined efforts with other law enforcement agencies resulted in no fatalities or serious injuries from traffic crashes in the unincorporated areas of Shelby County.

“Once again this shows the importance of partnerships with other agencies. We sent a clear message to motorists this past weekend to obey the speed limits and not drive under the influence,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

On Friday night, July 2, 2004, Sheriff’s Deputies worked with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Millington Police Department along Highway 51 near Highway 385. Here are the totals for the enforcement effort:

  • 1 arrest for Driving Under the Influence
  • 1 arrest for Suspended License
  • 222 Traffic Citations

Then on Sunday, July 4, 2004, the Sheriff’s Office conducted another traffic enforcement effort on Highway 70 and Highway 64. Here are the results:

  • 1 arrest for Driving Under the Influence
  • 3 arrests for Misdemeanor Offenses
  • 142 Traffic Citations
