Shelby County Sheriff’s Office seeking help in arresting suspected kidnapper

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department says they still have few leads in the kidnapping and robbery a 43-year-old-Memphis woman. On November 23, 2002 the woman was tied up at her home and robbed by a man who she says apparently followed her home from a convenience store.

The woman says the man approached her in the early morning hours of November 23rd as she was buying gas at the Exxon Station on South Parkway near Interstate 240. A few hours later, the man awakened her knocking on the front door of her house in Cordova.

She let the man to use the phone. Investigators say he then choked her unconscious, tied her to a chair, and ransacked the house. Although she was not raped, she did sustain a cut over her eye in the attack.

The man then forced her to drive him in her car with many of her belongings. As she approached the intersection of Walnut Grove near Germantown Parkway, she opened the door and escaped.

Here’s a description of the man wanted by the Sheriff’s Office:

  • A black male
  • Late 20s
  • 5.9-5.10 in height
  • 200 Pounds
  • Several upper gold teeth
  • The man may go by the name “Tony”
